About the Artist
Shylo is a mostly self-taught artist whose creative journey is fueled by a passion for learning and exploration. Drawing inspiration from online videos, conversations with fellow artists, and her personal experiences, Shylo embraces the challenge of continuously evolving her artistic techniques and expanding her creative boundaries. Her work is deeply rooted in the natural beauty of Coastal BC, where the vibrant colours of the landscape influence her work. Her mom’s light-filled house serves as a constant source of inspiration, especially in her watercolour pieces.
Shylo's travels, both locally and abroad, provide a wealth of inspiration for her acrylic and oil paintings, where she blends nature with hints of manmade structures. This interplay of the natural world and human influence is a theme she loves to explore. Her photography, born out of a desire to connect with her late grandfather, a published landscape photographer, focuses on candid moments from family events and travels. Through her lens, she captures fleeting, pure moments in time.
Currently, Shylo is working on a deeply personal self-portrait series that explores the grief of losing both her father and partner. Using music as an emotional guide, this project allows her to process and express the complexities of her loss. Shylo's work reflects a journey of growth, healing, and connection, both to herself and the world around her.
Shylo currently resides in the Comox Valley with her two cats, Angus and Bruce.
